Spot the Soft G Booklet 3
Description:
Soft g is even trickier than soft c, because g doesn't always follow the rule (get, give, girl). Kids need practice seeing which g's go soft. This booklet gives them that practice.
In every word with a soft g, the g and the letter after it are underlined: ge, gi and gy. That includes dge words like edge and badge. The underline appears on every step, even in the stories. A g with no line keeps its hard /g/ sound, so your child learns to look before they read.
What's inside:
- 8 short lessons: two each for ge, gi and gy, then two mixed reviews
- The same steps as the Pulling Together books, from warm-up to Build it
- 8 stories about life on our Colorado farm, featuring the horses from the series
- A Sound Sort game, where kids tell hard g from soft g with no underlines to help
- A one-page Roll and Read check at the end, with "Still tricky?" pointers back to the right lesson
- A parent guide, including the common words that break the rule
Who it's for: Children who have finished Book 3 of Pulling Together, or any reader who mixes up hard and soft g. It's printed in plain type to match Book 3, and it's a good fit for parents, tutors and teachers.
Format: PDF download, 56 pages, US Letter. Print one lesson at a time at home.
For use with the children in one family, or by one tutor with their own students. Classroom licenses are available separately.
